On May 29, Gov. Nathan Deal appointed nine members of the Georgia Commission on Family Violence:  Judge Joe C. Bishop, Superior Courts, Pataula Judicial Circuit; Judge J. Mike Greene, Probate Court of Jones County; Steven E. Hatfield, Deputy Director, Criminal Justice Coordinating Council; Judge Jeffrey Kight, Superior Courts, Waycross Judicial Circuit; Judge Jeannette Little, State Court of Troup County; Judge Katherine Lumsden, Superior Courts, Houston Judicial Circuit; Melanie S. McNeil, Georgia State Long-Term Care Ombudsman; Jessica Nunan, Executive Director, Caminar Latino; and Judge David Sweat, Superior Courts, Western Judicial Circuit.  Each will serve a two-year term.
• Judge Ronald Mullins, Superior Courts, Chattachoochee Judicial Circuit, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Judicial Retirement System of Georgia.
Judge Michael Jacobs, State Court of DeKalb County, was administered the oath of office by Gov. Nathan Deal on June 4, 2015.  Prior to his appointment, Judge Jacobs served in the Georgia General Assembly as a Representative from DeKalb County. He fills the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Eleanor Ross to the US District Court – Northern District of Georgia.
Judge Jean-Paul Boulee was sworn in to the Superior Court in the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit on June 29, 2015.  Judge Boulee fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Cynthia J. Becker in March.

• On July 22, 2015, Gov. Deal appointed Judge John B. Adams to the State Court of Charlton County. Judge Adams fills the vacancy created by the elevation of Judge J. Kelley Brooks to the Superior Court bench.

• On July 29, Gov. Nathan Deal and the Georgia Criminal Justice Reform Council announced the formation of the State Steering Committee for the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative. The committee, which will consist of juvenile court judges and individuals from relevant state organizations, will work to expand this reform effort to counties throughout Georgia.

  • Judge Steven Teske, chairman and Criminal Justice Reform Council member
  • Judge Brad Boyd, Fulton County Juvenile Court chief
  • Judge John Sumner, president of the Council of Juvenile Court Judges and Cherokee County Juvenile Court presiding judge
  • Judge Leroy Burke, III, presiding Chatham County Juvenile Court judge
  • Eric John, executive director of the Council of Juvenile Court Judges
  • Avery Niles, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice
  • Joe Hood, division director of public safety for the Office of Planning and Budget
  • Carey Miller, policy adviser for the Governor’s Office
  • Colin Slay, chief of staff for Clayton County Juvenile Court
  • Adolphus Graves, chief probation officer for Fulton County Juvenile Court
  • Joe Vignati, deputy commissioner for community services for the Department of Juvenile Justice

Four judges were sworn-in to the Traffic Division of the State Court of DeKalb County on July 30, 2015.  Judge Shondeana Crews Morris, Judge Keisha Storey, Judge Ronald Ramsey, Sr, and Judge Brian Ross were sworn-in by Gov. Nathan Deal.
