Appointments

• On April 16, Gov. Nathan Deal administered the oath of office to two superior court judges:
 
Judge Verda Colvin, Macon Judicial Circuit, was a federal prosecutor in the Middle District of Georgia prior to her appointment to the superior court bench.  Judge Colvin fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge S. Phillip Brown.
 
altJudge Suzanne Smith, (at left) Cherokee Judicial Circuit, served as the county attorney for Gordon County for over 20 years as well as serving as a juvenile and municipal court judge.  Judge Smith was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Shepherd Lee Howell.

altJudge Randy Rich (at right) was sworn-in by Gov. Nathan Deal on May 27, 2014, to the superior court bench in the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit.  Judge Rich, who served on the state court bench since 2005, fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Michael Clark.

• The Georgia Supreme Court Commission on Dispute REsolutin recently welcomed three new appointees: Rep. Jay Powell (R-Camilla); Judge Stefani R. Lacourt, Fulton County Magistrate Court; and Raymond G. Chadwick, Jr., Esq, Chadwick Mediation of Augusta.  Chief Justice Hugh P. Thompson (below) administered the oath to Judge Lacour and Mr. Chadwick at a Commission meeting on May 14, 2014. Rep. Powell will be sworn in at a later meeting.  The new appointees will serve five-yera terms on the Commission, which oversees the alternative dispute resolution system in Georgia's courts.alt
