Superior Court
Judge Art Smith, Superior Courts, Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit, was sworn-in on December 16, 2011, by Gov. Nathan Deal in Atlanta.  Prior to his appointment Judge Smith was vice president and senior associate counsel for AFLAC in Columbus, GA. His appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Douglas Pullen.

On December 16, 2011, Gov. Nathan Deal administered the oath of office to Judge Chan Caudell, Superior Courts, Mountain Judicial Circuit. Judge Caudell was an attorney at Caudell & Hotard, LLC in Cornelia and a member of the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Committee prior to his appointment.

State Court
altJudge Bruce E. Roberts (at right), State Court of Walker County, was sworn-in on October 3, 2011 by Gov. Nathan Deal. Judge Roberts fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Donny Peppers.

Judge J. Kendall Gross was sworn-in on December 16, 2011 to the State Court of Candler County bench by Gov. Nathan Deal. Judge Gross currently serves as Chief Magistrate in Candler County and as judge of the municipal court of Metter.
altJudge Bill Self, (at left) Probate Court of Bibb County, was installed as President of the National College of Probate Judges on November 4, 2011, at its Fall 2011 Conference on Jekyll Island.  As its President-Elect, Judge Self served as a delegate to the Third National Guardianship Summit in Salt Lake City, UT,  on October 13 - 15, 2011.  Delegates from the organizations comprising the National Guardianship Network convened to focus on post-appointment performance and decision making for guardians and conservators of adults, concluding with recommended national standards for guardians and conservators.  The National Guardianship Network is a multi-disciplinary group of national organizations dedicated to effective adult guardianship law and practice with a significant track record in improvement and reform in the field.

Other Appointments
Gov. Nathan Deal has made several recent appointments:

On October 7, 2011, Ms. Marla S. Moore, AOC Director, was appointed to the Georgia Commission on Family Violence. Other newly appointed members include: Sheriff Keith McBrayer, Henry County; Ms. Elaine Wilson, SW Georgia Council on Aging; and Ms. Sarah C. Cipperly, Director, Cobb Justice Foundation.
Chief Judge C. Andrew Fuller, Superior Court, Northeastern Judicial Circuit, was appointed on November 18, 2011, to serve on the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.
Judge Peggy Walker, Juvenile Court, Douglas Judicial Circuit, was appointed to the Child Fatality Review Panel on November 23, 2011.
