• On March 7, Judge Clarence Seeliger, Superior Court, Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit, was awarded the Pioneer Award by the DeKalb Bar Association.  He was recognized for decades of service and leadership to the DeKalb County bench, bar, and public at the Emory Conference Center Hotel.

Chief Justice Carol W. Hunstein, Supreme Court of Georgia, was chosen as the 2013 recipient of the Charles L. Weltner Freedom of Information Award by the Georgia First Amendment Foundation.  Chief Justice Hunstein received the award on March 14.  “Hunstein is being honored as an unwavering supporter of public access to the courts and a strong proponent of government transparency at all levels,” the Foundation said in a statement.  The award is named for the late Chief Justice Charles Weltner, who served as Georgia’s 23rd Chief justice and was a crusader for open government and civil rights.

• Judge Bensonnetta Tipton Lane, Superior Court, Atlanta Judicial Circuit, received the Jack P. Turner Award from the family law division of the State Bar of Georgia. The semi-annual Turner Award recognizes those whose career has been devoted to the practice of family law with substantial and significant contributions to improve and advance the practice of family law in the State of Georgia.
• The Council of Municipal Court Judges recently presented a number of awards during its Summer meeting in Jekyll Island.  Judge James Anderson, Municipal Court of Sandy Springs; Judge Dennis Still, Municipal Court of Lawrencville, and former Judge Charles R. Smith received the Council's Special Recognition Awards.  Judge Kenneth Wickham presented the President's Award to Mike Cuccaro, AOC; Judge Edward Carriere, posthumously; Judge Charles Barrett, Municipal Court of Berkeley Lake; and Judge Gary E. Jackson, Municipal Court of Atlanta.

• Judge M. Yvette Miller, Court of Appeals of Georgia, has been selected to receive the 2013 Leah Ward Sears Award for Distinction in the Profession from the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys.  Judge Miller was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 1999 and served as Chief Judge from 2009-2011. She will receive her award at a ceremony on July 20, 2013.
• Judge Stephen Goss, Superior Court, Dougherty Judicial Circuit, and Chief Judge Steven Teske, Juvenile Court, Clayton Judicial Circuit, are among 48 state policymakers from across the nation to be selected as Council of State Governments’ Henry Toll Fellows for the Class of 2013.
