Awards

Judge Edward E. Carriere, Jr., Senior Judge of the State Court, received a joint resolution of the Supreme Court of Georgia and the State Bar of Georgia, honoring him for a lifetime of service to the state of Georgia and the justice system.  Former state bar president Bryan Cavan presented the resolution to Judge Carriere in November.
 
altOn December 6, 2012, Former Justice G. Conley Ingram (left) was presented a portrait to honor his years of service on the Supreme Court of Georgia.  Justice Ingram served on Georgia's highest court from 1973 to 1977.  He has also served as a judge of the juvenile and superior courts; he assumed senior judge status in 1998.  The portrait now hangs in the Supreme Court Courtroom.

Judge Patricia Barron, Chief Magistrate, Clarke County, was awarded the 2013 ATHENA Award at the 110th annual Athens Area Chamber of Commerce banquet on December 6, 2012.  The ATHENA award is annually presented to a woman who embodies the highest level of professional excellence in her career, devotes time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community, and actively assists women in realizing their leadership potential.
 
Judge Samuel Ozburn, Superior Courts, Alcovy Judicial Circuit, was named the R.O. Arnold Award recipient for 2013.  The R.O. Arnold Award recognizes a Newton County resident who has contributed to the community.   Judge Ozburn was recognized for the programs he has brought to the Alcovy Circuit including a student tour program, a literacy requirement for defendants placed on probation, and a work release program for low-risk probationers and child support defendants.
 
On January 24, 2013, Judge Kathlene Gosselin, Superior Courts, Northeastern Judicial Circuit, was presented the Council of Superior Courts Judges’ Emory Findley Award.  The Emory Findley Award recognizes a judge who exhibits outstanding judicial service in all areas.  Judge Emory Findley, for whom the award is named, served as a superior court judge in the Eastern Judicial Circuit from 1977 to 1995.
 
On March 23, 2013, Judge Richard M. McNeely, State Court of Emanuel County, will be awarded with the University System of Georgia Board of Regents Distinguished Alumni Award.  The award is given to an alumnus who has gone above and beyond in their support of their alma mater.  Judge McNeely was nominated for the award by East Georgia State College, formerly Emanuel County Junior College from which he graduated in 1981 before earning a Bachelor’s and JD from the University of Georgia.
