Awards - December 2016

• On October 13, 2016, Judge Jeffrey Bagley, Superior Court, Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit, was recognized by No Longer Bound, a residential drug treatment program, for his leadership of the Forsyth County Drug Court.

Judge Peggy Walker• On September 9, 2016, Judge Peggy Walker, Juvenile Court of Douglas County, was recognized as a “Big Voice for Children” by Voices for Georgia’s Children. Judge Walker is a statewide and national expert in juvenile law. She is a former President of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and has presided over the juvenile court in Douglas County for nearly 30 years.  Judge Walker (right), with Melissa Carter (center), and Judge Sandy Miller (left), Juvenile Court of Paulding County.



State Courts

Chatham County

Judge Gregory FowlerChief Judge Gregory Fowler (at right, with Judge Steve Goss) was recognized by the Council of Accountability Court Judges with its STAR Award during its inaugural conference on September 12 in Athens, GA. Judge Fowler created the Chatham County DUI Court in 2003, one of the first three in the state.




Cherokee County

Judge Michelle Homier received recognition in April 2016 from the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at Georgia Tech with a 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award for being an Alumni Trailblazer. Judge Homier is a 1999 graduate with as BS in History, Technology, and Society.

Previously on October 21, 2015, the Canton Cherokee Business and Professional Women’s Club recognized Judge Homier as an outstanding Woman of Cherokee County during Georgia Business Women’s Week.

Wayne County

Judge Violet Bennett received the Distinguished Service Award given by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce in May.  The award is given based on civic involvement and contributions to the community.  Judge Bennett will be the Grand Marshall in this year’s Christmas Parade.
