Ferguson Summit

The "Georgia Reflections on Ferguson" Summit, planned by the Access, Fairness, Public Trust and Confidence Committee, the Council of Municipal Court Judges, and the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education, took place on December 15, 2016, in the President's Room, University Center, at Mercer University. The event was held on December 15, 2016, to commemorate the "Bill of Rights" Day. https://www.billofrightsinstitute.org/founding-documents/bill-of-rights/

The Summit focused on the role of the courts in addressing the justice issues raised in the Department of Justice Report from Ferguson, Missouri.

Chief Justice Hugh P. Thompson, Supreme Court of Georgia, welcomed the crowd along with Deputy Chief Judge Gary E. Jackson, President, Council of Municipal Court Judges.  Panels for the Summit included Video in Courts/Open Courtrooms, Presentation on the Georgia Criminal Justice Reform County, and the Process of Punishment - the Ethics Argument for having a different process in lower level courts.
