Judge Carla Wong McMillian Recounts Family History for JC/AOC Staff

By Michelle Barclay

Judge Carla Wong McMillan of the Georgia Court of Appeals accepted an invitation to a recent JC/AOC staff meeting.  She spoke to us about her background and her path to becoming a judge. Judge McMillian's compelling story tells of a childhood in Augusta which includes one of the oldest Chinese communities in the Southeast. Her family maintained a grocery store in an African American community of Augusta. In fact, her father was born in a back room of a grocery store in 1927. Judge McMillian spoke to the Marietta Kiwanis Club in 2016; her presentation was fortunately filmed and archived with her permission, and includes historical photos of her family.
