Judges’ Councils See Women Rise in Leadership Positions

Call 2013 the Year of the Woman for Georgia’s judges’ councils. 
In April, Judge Kelley Powell, Probate Court of Henry County, took the reigns of the Council of Probate Court Judges from Judge Mary Jo Buxton, Probate Court of Johnson County. 
In May, Judge Linda S. Cowen, State Court of Clayton County, began her one-year term as President of the Council of State Court Judges, and Judge Louisa Abbot, Superior Court, Eastern Judicial Circuit, became President of the Council of Superior Court Judges. 
On June 1, Judge Betsey Kidwell, Magistrate, Heard County, took on the responsibilities of President of the Council of Magistrate Court Judges.
Judge Robin Shearer, Juvenile Court, Western Judicial Circuit, continues in her role as President of the Council of Juvenile Court Judges, a position she inherited after the previous president was elected to the superior court bench.
