In Memoriam

The Georgia Judiciary mourns the passing of colleagues and friends:

altSenior Judge Jere F. White, at right, of Cartersville died on October 3, 2011. Judge White, a graduate of Atlanta Law School, was appointed to the Superior Court bench of the Cherokee Judicial Circuit in December 1976; he retired, taking senior status, in 1992.  Prior to his appointment, Judge White served as Solicitor-General (forerunner of District Attorney) in the Cherokee Circuit.

Mr. Tom Lawler of Norcross died November 23, 2011 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mr. Lawler was elected Superior Court Clerk of Gwinnett County in 1996 after serving eight years as District Attorney of Gwinnett County.   Mr. Lawler served in the US Army during Vietnam.

altSenior Judge John H. Land, at left, of Columbus died on November 30, 2011. Judge Land was elected as Superior Court Judge in 1964 in the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit; he retired in 1988. Prior to his judicial career, Judge Land served in the Georgia Senate, 1949-50, and as Solicitor General, 1955-1964. Judge Land, a University of Georgia School of Law graduate, served in the US Army during World War II.
