Transitions - August 2018

Judge Alford Dempsey• Judge Alford Dempsey, Jr, Superior Court, Atlanta Judicial Circuit, retired on June 1, 2018. Judge Dempsey was appointed by Gov. Zell Miller in 1995; he assumed senior status upon his retirement.

• Judge Donald Boyd, Probate Court of Troup County, retired on June 30, 2018. He served as Probate Judge for 18 years.

Judge Murphy C. Miller, Superior Courts, Enotah Judicial Circuit, retired on June 30, 2018.  Judge Miller was appointed to the superior court bench in 2008.

• Judge Thomas Hodges, Superior Courts, Northern Judicial Circuit, retired on July 31, 2018. Judge Hodges was appointed in 1999 by Gov. Roy Barnes; he served as State Court Judge of Elbert County prior to his appointment to the superior court bench.

• Judge William Woodrum, Superior Courts, Ogeechee Judicial Circuit, retired on July 31, 2018. Judge Woodrum was appointed to the superior court bench in 1995 after serving 10 years as Jenkins County State Court Judge.

Judge Gary Andrews• Judge Gary Andrews, Court of Appeals of Georgia, retired on July 31, 2018, after serving 27 years on the bench. Judge Andrews, a University of Georgia School of Law graduate, served as superior court judge in the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit from 1980 until his appointment to the Georgia Public Service Commission in 1985.  In 1990, Judge Andrews was elected to an open seat on the Court of Appeals. He served as Chief Judge from 1997-1998.
