In Memoriam

Former Judge Jim Matoney of Alpharetta died on December 19, 2015.  After a 36 year career at Shell Oil, he earned a law degree from Mercer University. Judge Matoney then served as Municipal Court Judge of Alpharetta for eight years, from 2005 – 2013.   Judge Thomas Kenneth Kilpatrick of Dahlonega served the state of Georgia in each of its branches of government throughout his career.  He was a State Senator, a Member of the State Board of Education, and a superior court judge.  The University of Georgia Law School graduate and US Navy Lieutenant was appointed in 1985 to the bench in the Clayton Judicial Circuit, a position he served until his retirement in 1999. Judge Kilpatrick died on January 11, 2016.   Judge Walter C. McMillan of Sandersville was appointed to the superior court bench of the Middle Judicial Circuit in 1966 as Chief Judge, a position he held for more than 40 years. Judge McMillan, a Woodrow Wilson College of Law graduate, was a charter member of the Judicial Council of Georgia and served on that body three separate times: 1973-1975; 1981-1985; and 1998-2001. He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. Judge McMillan died on January 17, 2016.
