Transitions

Bryan Owensby, Superior Court Clerk, Heard County, retired on December 31, 2015.  Tammie Teal took over the duties of Superior Court Clerk on January 1, 2016.   • Judge Robert Phillips, Chief Magistrate and Probate Courts of Charlton County, retired on December 31, 2015.  Judge Phillips became Magistrate Judge in 1997 and Probate Judge in 2012 when the county combined the two courts. Judge Cheryl McMillan was appointed to fill the vacancy created by Judge Phillips' retirement. • Chief Judge David Cavender, Superior Courts, Atlantic Judicial Circuit, retired on January 31, 2016, after 33 years of service.  Judge Cavender was elected in 1982 to a vacant seat. He served on the Judicial Council from 1984 – 1985.  Gov. Nathan  Deal appointed him as a senior judge of the Superior Courts on February 3, 2016.   • Chief Judge A. Quillian Baldwin, Superior Courts, Coweta Judicial Circuit, was appointed to the bench in 1995. On January 31, 2016, he retired after a 21 year career.  Judge Baldwin served on the Judicial Council from 2006 – 2009.  Gov. Nathan  Deal appointed him as a senior judge of the Superior Courts on February 3.   • Judge Morris Braswell, State Court of Clayton County, retired on January 31, 2016. Judge Braswell was elected in 1996 and assumed senior status upon appointment from Gov. Nathan Deal on February 3.   • Judge Roger Bradley, Superior Courts, Appalachian Judicial Circuit, resigned effective January 31, 2016.
