Chief Justice Thompson announces Retirement

Thompson announced that he will leave the Supreme Court of Georgia in early January 2017 after the swearing in of a new Chief Justice. That means that Gov. Nathan Deal will have the opportunity to appoint another justice to the state’s highest court.

Superior Court Judge Alford J. Dempsey Jr. Named Deputy Chief Judge

Judge Alford J. Dempsey, Jr. was recently named Deputy Chief Judge of the Superior Court of Fulton County. Judge Dempsey succeeds Judge T. Jackson Bedford, Jr. who has served in the deputy post since 2015. Judge Dempsey’s term is set to begin on June 1, 2016. Judge Alford Dempsey
