In Memoriam - December 2017

• Former Judge Gordon Shuman, of Darien, died on September 25, 2017. Judge Shuman served as the Small Claims Judge from 1981 until 1986 when he was elected Probate Judge of McIntosh County. He served the county until his retirement in 2006.

In Memoriam - December 2016

• Senior Judge William Neville joined the US Army prior to the start of World War II, during which he served in the China-Burma-India Theater and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Judge Neville, who passed away on September 15, 2016, graduated from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 1949. He practiced law in Statesboro, first with his father and then his wife until his 1984 appointment to the superior court bench. Judge Neville retired in 1996.

In Memoriam

Former Judge James W. Oxendine of Madison served in the Korean War before earning his Bachelors and Masters degrees in education; he sold textbooks for Rand McNally while attending law school at night.  Judge Oxendine was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1973.  He  was appointed to the superior court bench in 1992 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2001, at which time he was appointed as a senior judge.
